NYC

Went to the theatre Friday night after a long week of work (that was grueling in many ways) to see the nephew in Neil Labute's "The Shape Of Things" . If you are in NYC this weekend there are 2 final performances Sunday. We really only go to see live theatre when Bryan is performing and I always notice an odd disconnect - it it LIVE-something very different from the usual drama watched in T.V. or in movies. To have something play out before your very eyes in real time is an unusual experience. Bravo to Bryan & the cast!

Atlantic City , New Jersey

Made a 2nd  trek to Atlantic City on Sunday & spotted some lovely sites: a body (made  of  sand ) , wonderful tile work, a funny frog and beautiful birds .

What to make of this:

I've been mulling this one over for some time now : what to do with these. As a mass transit commuter one has to use "metro cards". As you use them up most folks toss them out-usually somewhere in the station and often in overflowing boxes meant for collection. My question has been-can't they be used in some creative way? I carry one in my sketchbook just in case an idea should arise but it never has. Anyone got any ideas? Or are they just junk? I know of one entrepreneurial guy who uses they as part of NYC collected collages . He boxes them and actually sells them. I keep thinking they must be good for something else. They are very durable & colorful but still no ideas come to me...

spring time art

Today is gray, a day of Passover, also Good Friday. The world still looks asleep but here and there I find punches of color & everywhere one hears bird song! I hope everyone has a very happy holiday!

The shower for baby "XY"

The ladies of the maternal side of my family stayed at Nancy & Jim's beach house & had a wonderful time. It was great to meet Jenn's family, gather with everyone and celebrate the coming of our new family member, baby "XY" ! The weather cooperated, (very windy but sunny) Jenn really did seem surprised & it looks like she received everything one might need for her new little boy! We girls got to hang out and relax and take a bracing walk on the beach before heading home. The best part was being with everyone and knowing that we will soon be joined by a brand new family member! Can't wait!

Teaching the art of being creative

I began teaching a new series of classes this week at The Creative Center. My desk was a major mess all week (cue Sandi cat to come over and investigate!)as I did the prep work for the 4 classes which will focus on the art of the greeting card . Each week we'll create a card utilizing a different medium & I'll be bringing in little pieces of letter & mail art as inspiration. In last night's first class a wonderful artist gave me some colorful & waxy tissue paper. I brought it home and wondered how to use it. This weekend I am attending my cousin Jenn's baby shower and lots of my family have their birthdays in the next few weeks. So I gathered my collection of rocks with gold leaf hearts and wrapped them in this great & transparent paper. Hope they make it to N.J. in O.K.  condition!
P.S. teaching is such fun and if you have not done it, I encourage you to think about what you love and then mull over how you can teach it to others . You'll get a wonderful energy from this.
