This afternoon I returned to my routine of walking around the circumference of a near by wooded park . As this was something I had not done since Dec. 23rd , I looked about for signs of change since that last walk when all was covered in snow. This was something that stood out-a peace sign painted onto a trail marker . As my walks are something that gives me a great sense of peace I thought this symbol perfect. I have been trying to include this walk into everyday since November. As day light waned and cold temps made me feel more like hiding inside than going out-I forced myself out into the cold ,the wind and the rain & snow as often as possible. After a while I noticed I began to crave this short time of quiet and attention to nature. Looking for birds and squirrels in the open and gray landscape of winter. Watching trees empty themselves of their leaves .It has become an exercise in disengaging from the elements of daily life & work and going out to get some much needed physical exercise and take note of this small woods as it passes through the old year & the season of winter.
(I enjoy returning to certain images as the seasons change : 1/19/2009: snow covered)
